Kauri Logs Recycled into Furniture with Help of Kerrick Water Blasters

WATER BLASTING IN THE NAME OF ART

Up around the Northland region of New Zealand ancient Kauri logs and stumps are being reclaimed from the swamps. The reclaimed wood is then shipped off to be recycled and carved into exquisite pieces of furniture by the talented team at the Kaihu Kauri Timber Gallery, near Dargaville.

To prepare the ancient Kauris for processing the team needs to remove any soil, stones and other debris from the various nooks and crannies using high pressure cleaners. Seeking out a more efficient way of working the Kauri reclamation team approached Spanhake Engineering (a Kerrick Distributor) to find out what the best water blaster for the job would be. In turn Spanhake consulted with Kerrick to find out which pressure cleaner could quickly do the job without causing any damage.

After much deliberation and consultation Kerrick supplied a 4000 psi 15 l/m water blaster, a pressure cleaning unit powerful enough to get the job done quickly and efficiently but gentle enough not to damage the integrity of the wood.

Once cleaned the Kauris are transformed into rare and highly sought after furniture, which is sold all over the world. The image above is of a 60 tonne Kauri Log believed to be around 6000 years old.

Over the years Kerrick has discovered that customer's needs tend to be quite varied and quite often the answer to their cleaning solutions isn't available as an off the shelf product. That's why the Kerrick sales team is trained to find out where customers needs lie and encouraged to think outside the box to provide the solutions that they need. If you have a project that needs a customised cleaning solution touch base with the team at Kerrick to discuss it, they're always happy to take on a challenge.
