KERRICK & HUGHES PUMPS WORKING TOGETHER
Hughes Pumps and Kerrick were recently commissioned by Not Just Coatings in Christchurch, NZ to design and build an ultra high pressure (UHP) water jetting unit with an electrically braked trailer. Not Just Coatings specialises in providing painting and coating solutions for the industrial sector and will be using the new system to strip coatings and corrosion from tanks and steel structures in preparation for painting.
The pumpset is an Ultrabar 24 DRT which performs at 23 l/m with 40,000 psi and includes an onboard 50cfm air compressor to drive 2 jetting guns. The unit also had twin air driven rotary guns and tumble boxes allowing two operators to work independently of each other. Ultra High Pressure water jetting is the more efficient and environmentally friendly method than grit blasting as there is no airborne dust, no grit disposal and all salt deposits are removed from the steel substrate, providing an ideal surface for new paint.
Units like these are also occasionally used for hydrodemolition (concrete cutting) where very precise, controlled cutting is required without damage to steel reinforcing bars.
An agreement was reached in early 2013 for Kerrick to exclusively represent Hughes in Australasia. The successful design, build and commissioning of this project clearly demonstrates the ability of Hughes and Kerrick to work cohesively together to offer flexible designs to our customers.
